Endoscope Reprocessing

Education and Training Package for the Reprocessing of Flexible Endoscopes and Accessories

The aim of this web-based package is to provide healthcare professionals with education and training tools to minimize adverse patient outcomes associated with breaches in the reprocessing of flexible endoscopes and accessories. The training package reflects the national standard of practice within Gastroenterology, which GENCA as the professional body has endorsed.

The package consists of 6 theoretical modules;

Module 1:Disease Transmission and Control
Module 2:Cleaning, Disinfection and Sterilisation
Module 3: Workplace Health and Safety
Module 4:Endoscope structure and function
Module 5: Reprocessing
Module 6:Quality Assurance

To view the Reprocessing Course please Click Here to open  the Queensland Health Web Site for the modules.

Individuals work through each of the 6 modules and can assess their learning after each module by means of review questions. Once all six modules have been completed, a series of 17 Final Review Multiple Choice Questions is undertaken and documented as evidence of completion by printing off the final sheet which has 17 ticks on it and your name at the top.

When completed and passed, registered nurses, enrolled nurses and others who process endoscopes may apply for assessment of their practical skills based on the completed education package - the final step of this education and training package.

Important: You must have cleaned a minimum of at least 15 endoscopes prior to undertaking the final assessment and have your manager or preceptor sign off on the application sheet that this is correct.

This is NOT an assessment based on work place practice but on the information provided in the education modules completed on line.

Assessment sessions are conducted across all states and territories as per the application form below. Alternatively, GENCA may be specifically contracted by an employing institution to conduct an assessment session on-site.
